Class Descriptions


#1-7. Halter Classes - Shown in a halter and judged on conformation and overall quality. Horses to walk to the judge and trot away, then set up in line as ring steward instructs. Novice class can be instructed by judge on setting up or other instructions. Ribbons 1-5.
#8. Halter Championship Open - Must have shown in class 1-7. Anyone who has shown in the above classes may show in the championship but must declare the class on the entry. Championship and Reserve ribbons.
#9, 10. Color Classes - Horses circle the judge at a walk, both directions, and lineup. Judged 100% on color. Multi-Color is pintos and Appaloosas. Solid color is buckskin, palomino, dun, or other solid colors.
#11, 12. Showmanship – In showmanship the handler’s appearance and presentation are considered part of the class. Long sleeve shirts, long slacks, boots, and a hat are recommended and may be either English or Western style. Gloves are optional. Judged on exhibitor’s ability to show and handle their horse. Faults: Touching horse to achieve pivot, back, etc. Novice Showmanship. This class is for equines of all ages new to showmanship and/or for new to showmanship handlers. Novice Showmanship handlers are allowed to touch their horse. Courses posted at show. Ribbons 1-5.
#13. Costume Class Open - Costumes can be any theme, in hand or in cart. Enter at a walk and circle the judge both ways of the ring. Judged on originality and presentation. More than one exhibitor may enter the ring with the costume horse. Ribbons are awarded 1st through 6th.
#14, 15. Hunter - Judged on form over the course and willingness over jumps. Refusals and knockdowns are to be penalized. Three refusals and the horse must move on to the next jump. Horse must be at least 3 yrs old.
#16. Golden Age Hunter - handlers must be 55+. Shortened course. Ribbons 1-5.
#17. Novice In Hand Obstacle Open - Halter obstacle horses must be 2 or older. Emphasis on manners, willingness, and ability to complete each obstacle on a point system: 3 points for properly executing the obstacle; 2 points for some difficulty but completing it; 1 point for an attempt, but not completing the obstacle. Refusals do not constitute elimination; however, after 3 refusals, the horse must move on to the next obstacle. Course posted at the show. Ribbons 1-5.
#18. In Hand Obstacle Open - Halter obstacle horses must be 2 or older. Emphasis on manners, willingness, and ability to complete each obstacle on a point system: 3 points for properly executing the obstacle; 2 points for some difficulty but completing it; 1 point for an attempt, but not completing the obstacle. Refusals do not constitute elimination; however, after 3 refusals, the horse must move on to the next obstacle. Course posted at the show. Ribbons awarded 1-5.

** All Pleasure Driving - Adults must wear helmets unless helmet waiver is signed. See entry form.
Helmets are required for all youth drivers 17 and under.
Driving equipment is to be serviceably safe. Pony or mini or donkey is at least 3 yrs old and under control at all times. Sidechecks or overchecks may be used. For your safety, breeching, thimbles, or harness stops are recommended to stabilize the cart on stops. Horses will enter the ring at a walk. Gaits are walk, collected trot, and working (extended) trot. At judge’s discretion, at a walk or collected trot, horse may be asked to stop and stand quietly. Horses will work both directions of the ring. Horses will back in line up except green classes. Judged on gaits, manners, way of going, transitions, and overall impression. Breaking gaits or unruly behavior penalized. Judge has the right to excuse any mini/pony/donkey for unsoundness or reckless behavior.
#19. Driving Obstacle Open - Driving obstacle horses must be at least 3 years old. Emphasis on manners, willingness, and ability to complete each obstacle on a point system: 3 points for properly executing the obstacle; 2 points for some difficulty but completing it; 1 point for an attempt, but not completing the obstacle. Refusals do not constitute elimination; however, after 3 refusals, the horse must move on to the next obstacle. Course posted at the show. Ribbons awarded 1-5
#20. Green Driver Pleasure Open - Green driver is considered to be youth or adult in their first year of competition, based on the honor system. Green drivers will not be asked to back in the lineup. Judged on gaits, manners, and transitions. Ribbons awarded 1-5
#21. Green Horse Pleasure Driving Open - HORSE that in his/her first year of driving competition, based on the honor system. Judged on gaits, manners, and transitions. Breaking gaits or unruly behavior will be penalized. Ribbons awarded 1-5.
#22. Mini Pleasure Driving - For miniature horses 38” and under. Driven at a walk and two speeds of trot, generally designated as a working or regular trot and an extended "strong" trot. Classes are judged on the horse's manners, performance, quality and conformation. Ribbons 1-5
#23. Pony Pleasure Driving - For ponies 39” up to 49”. Driven at a walk and two speeds of trot, generally designated as a working or regular trot and an extended "strong" trot. Classes are judged on the horse's manners, performance, quality and conformation. Ribbons 1-5
#24. Pleasure Driving Championship - Must have shown previously in classes 20, 21, 22, or 23. Anyone who has shown in the above classes may show in the championship but must declare the class on the entry.
#25. Reinsmanship Open - Individual driving of a pattern that may include a figure 8 and driving with one hand for part of the course. Judged on overall skill of driver and horse doing a pattern. The driver is judged. The pattern will be at the discretion of the judge. Ribbons 1-5
#26. Golden Age Driving Open - In this class the driver must be 55 years old or older. Judged as a regular pleasure driving class. Ribbons 1-5.
