Why SSC?
Saguaro State Shetland & Miniature Horse Club is geared for the small equine. Our membership is for equines 48" and under!
Each year we hold clinics, competitive events and one pleasure show, open to the public. Unlike many shows or events where smaller horses and ponies may enter open classes, competing against larger ponies and full sized horses, the SSC Open Pleasure show is only for equines 48" and under.
Clinics we hold each year are geared toward small horse owners and may include:
Harnessing and beginning driving, suitable carts for the smaller horse, why harness and carts for small equines can be different than for large horses
Veterinarian, farrier, and simple horse care, how it differs from large horse, what sorts of things are more likely in the small equine
Halter, Showmanship,Trail driving and Obstacle driving or in hand (walking), introducing your horse to new things, socializing them into small and large groups, and seeing what sort of things one can "get into."
Members only competitions, like our Poker Drive, Scurry and trail drives.
Each of these events are designed to bring our small horses out of the corral and into fun, safe and educational gatherings. Our members are wonderful, as are their horses. We support, help, and learn from each other!
If you have a small horse sitting in your back yard, with no job, JOIN US! The worst that can happen is you may find a whole new horse in your back yard, and a new group of fun friends to share him/her with!
What do we DO with our "little guys"?
We get asked that a LOT! Each year SSC puts on workshops and clinics for our members. Some are bring your own horse and "work on a skill" type workshop, like obstacles in hand or in harness. Sometimes we bring in someone in a particular field, like a vet, shoer, even a massage therapist! We also hold fun days, and once a year, we have a pleasure/fun show. Our members are old hands, and novices, juniors and not-so-juniors, some fancy and some not so much. We all have a common love of our horses, and a LOT of GRINS!
Check out what some of our horses are doing!
